RIOT RECAP:

1. NRO: On October 29, 2023 Midnight Riot hosted their annual Post-Homecoming Community Clean-up Event. This event focused on highlighting the immense destruction that the homecoming festivities caused in the West End, Ashview Heights, Vine City and adjacent communities. While for AUC Students and Alumni Homecoming represents a significant time for community and fellowship, the event also highlights a lack of care that the AUC community display towards the larger West End community. Every year, at the end of Homecoming, there are large amounts of trash in the streets, on sidewalks, in the right of way, and left in the greenspaces that have failed to be addressed by the AUC Institutions and the City of Atlanta. This is extremely disheartening to the Riot Team and underscores the need for more robust environmental equity work to address the disparities in waste management and recycling systems.

   • The clean-up was supported by  Morehouse Rugby, Morehouse NROTC and ALD Spelman and we hope to continue to put pressure on the AUC Institutions to treat the West End Community with respect! The AUC needs to do better!

2. Art Updates/Zines: During Homecoming, the Riot Team created and printed our first Zine meant to engage college students in topics related to harm reduction. The Zine included information related to community health, substance use, consent, healthy sexuality, and waste and litter. The Zine was distributed by Riot Team members throughout the festivities! Were you able to get a Zine from the Riot Team? If you spot a Riot Team member on campus or within the community, be sure to ask for a Zine!
